As I've said, GW2 doesn't exist. It's a figment of everyone's imagination.

Really, I can understand not releasing a beta because of delays. When they say screenshots, concept art, all that jazz is supposed to be released in one year and it's not, that is a VERY BAD SIGN. Promising betas is one thing, promising something as small as screenshots or even concept art and not delivering usually means something seriously wrong happened somewhere in development. They should NOT have made those kind of predictions. (and before the suck-ups say it, I understand they weren't "promises," but when you're working for a company like that you do NOT even make predictions on that level when it's not a guaranteed thing)

Especially when you consider that most of the people here would probably be content with just a bunch load of concept art, which (I hope) they should be hip deep in by now? I think everyone would love to see screenshots, but a few good concept sketches of weapons, armors, and locales would probably satisfy everyone for a good while. If nothing else just to know that progress, and for that matter just the game itself, is being made.

Do you guys want another junk game or something that will be worth what you spend on it? ANet can see what is going on in the world of on-line games. They do not want to set traps for themselves.
No, I don't want them to rush it to market, I just want to see something. The only explanation I can think of is that NCSoft told them to put the lid on all GW2 info because they want Aion to be center-stage right now, but if so, they're trading the fanbase of an established franchise for the theoretical fanbase of a future game.

@Operative 14: yes, that was exactly what I was thinking of, thank you.

However, if they hadn't said anything about it then, people would have been even more unhappy because ANet would have had no excuse for how EotN failed to deliver. So they're screwed either way. I'd been planning on doing the beta and seeing how good it is... but the beta looks like it shan't materialize any time soon. Heck, if I don't see at least another concept art (c'mon, guys, one little picture for the Sylvari? I want to know more about them!), I'm probably joining the vaporware crowd. Seriously, ANet - The Old Republic already has a few early screenies and it's only just been announced! I decided early on never to play 2 MMOs at once, but it looks like in a few years I'll get to play ST:tOR if things keep going the way they are now.
First of all, people knew that the Old Republic game was in development through "leaks" (read: viral marketting) like 8 months prior to the official "announcement."

But yes, I agree that A.net made the annoucement too early. Of course, the only reason they had to do that was because they had to give us some excuse about why they were no longer following the "1 chapter every 6 month thing." Imagine how whinny the GW community would be if GW 2 WASN'T annoucned right now. We'd have no idea what the heck was going on and the doom and gloom threads would be even more rampent.

Holy carp, Gaile hasn't been the CRM for over 9 months, and you're still laying the blame for everything that Anet supposedly hasn't done at her feet.

Oy, you guys give me a headache.

You all realize that multiple whine threads isn't going to make the Dev team work faster, right? They work to the pace called "doing once, do it right".

I think the "When it's done" phrase is... well, good, but there are only 2 things you can use it with.

Blizzard or Valve games, which are always almost perfect.
Duke Nukem Forever.

I think you will see plentiful marketing when the game is ready to go - I am sure there will be cover stories on all the mags/blogs.

I have high hopes for Anet they did an amazing job with Guildwars and the time they are spending on GW2. They are making an amazing game so many companies out there today try to push things out as fast as they can for money, where as I feel Anet prides it sell in a good product as well as customer satisfaction.

Sony pushed the PS3 out to soon it came with bugs when you bought it.
Microsoft pushes out new OP's and lets consumers find the bugs.
Lionhead pushed out Fable I to soon and had to release Fable: The Lost Chapters to make up for the content that was lacking, and it was years before they brought out Fable II and they did an incredible job with it.

To me this is not right if your going to make a product make it to its full extent and do it right the first time, Which is the action that anet is taking they want to release a good product and I'm sure that they will do so.

So quit the QQ and moaning about GW2 info when we get it we will get it all the QQ threads are not going to make anet release the game any faster then what they are planning.

~Zidane~
Jolly good post! /winthread.

Also, it might be wise to note that what Gaile Gray (or indeed anyone) says is not gospel truth. Any game, while in production, is guarenteed to be pushed back due to unforseen difficulties. I'm excited about GW2 aswell, but be patient. Give them time to make the game... when they're ready they'll give us information, which will be much more accurate than a hashed-effort a year early.

I just hope they dont put all the TR staff (if theres any left) onto working on GW2....

Um, first of all, I specifically said, "whether it was her fault or not I can't say." If it was her idea to be so enthusiastic about telling us all the wonderful things ANet will do in 2008, it was her fault that all this hype got drummed up on empty promises, regardless of whether or not she's still the CRM. If she was told to say that, then it was her manager's fault. Either way, if they were not sure that they would not be able to do all those things, they shouldn't have said them. Did you read the link? She was practically gushing over all the stuff she claimed they'd be giving us in 2008, yet we haven't even gotten any new concept art. This is why I said that they over-promised and under-delivered, when they should aim to under-promise and over-deliver.

I'm not demanding that they be clairvoyant whenever they talk about the future, but the difference between their statements in December 2007 (GW2 contests throughout 2008, beta sometime in late 2008) and the actual state of affairs in November 2008 (not even a single screen shot, concept art, or piece of information we didn't already know has been released in the past year) is absurd, and cannot be simply chalked up to, "Well, delays happen."

We aren't asking for them to work faster. Christ, we're not asking for anything that they don't (or shouldn't) already have done: concept art, some kind of feature list, anything like that. Those are basic planning steps that should already be available for release; they wouldn't have to work any faster to get them to us, just hand them over to Regina for distribution.

This is not for GW2's artwork as it was released at the time of EotN.

Utopia concept art =/= gw2 concept art, try again next thread

Pretty much all we have for gw2 news for this year is...
HoM is going to be acccount based eventually, but no timeline when it will happen. And this is a change to a gw1 feature.

I will speculate that gwen and every new feature afterward being added into the game, storybooks and summoning stones, is anet testing waters for gw2 concepts. But without any conformation or written word, gw2 is vaporware.

I actually think they have their priorities in a better place - they're actually more focused in marketing where they should be and reaching the masses, than satisfying a few dozen fanbois who will only lay a lot of "not enough" or "fail" on the snippets they're given.

I actually applaud them for not pandering to brattish forum communities. It's a waste of energy.

Where? And I think more than a just a few dozen fanbois would be interested if they started releasing concept art and screenshots.

Yes, giving news about an upcoming sequel to the people who are actually waiting for and are most interested in the game would be terrible and a complete waste of energy. They should definitely focus on marketing to people who don't, and will not, give a crap (which they are NOT doing either by the way).

Okay, some of you clearly don't know anything about game development.

To the person who said it will probably be out by the Q1 of next year, it won't or else we would have gotten something by now.
To the person who said I hope they don't give us anything until 3 months before the game is released, wow, you're retarded.

Look I'm not exactly in a big rush for Guild Wars 2 its just that if they are as far as they say they are, certain things would/should been released by now. I'm not asking for a trailer or even a screenshot hell, even plot details can remain hush hush. Concept art is done somewhat early in game development. Its not that I'm rushing for them to come out with these things, its just that some of these things should already be done by most standards (not ours).

Either way I could wait a little longer.

Nothing is going to mean anything till only a few months before the release to a vast majority of human beings. They'll do the marketing the right way, through professional channels: radio, TV, print (real world and online), gaming shows, their website, interviews, using proper marketing concepts. "Sucking up to leet gamebois with no reach" is not a viable marketing concept to me.

Put it this way: I heard the newest Harry Potter movie comes out July 2009. I heard this news 2 years ago. Unless I'm a severly socially incapable, I'm not going to be sitting on the edge of my seat waiting for the release of this movie.

I'm a GW fan. But I'm not sitting at my computer 20 hours a day, trawling the internet for tidbits of news and bitching out the company for not delivering.
